applications, and Dspfactory, a leading provider of ultra-low power audio processing systems for portable and wearable devices, today announced the availability of an advanced headset reference design that enables manufacturers to significantly reduce time-to-market and cost for Bluetooth(R) stereo headsets.

Based on the SiW3500(TM) UltimateBlue(TM) single-chip Bluetooth integrated circuit (IC) and Dspfactory's BelaSigna(TM) 200 single-chip DSP-based audio processing system, the reference design includes all of the components required for an end-to-end, one-stop solution. Demonstrations of the advanced headset reference design will be featured in RFMD's Booth #326 and Dspfactory's Booth #514 at WiCon World 2004 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, June 8 - 10, 2004.

Worldwide, wireless headsets represent the second largest segment of the explosive Bluetooth market, which industry analysts forecast will grow more than six-fold over the next three years. The proliferation of streaming stereo audio through portable audio players, notebook PCs, cellular handsets and other mobile devices is driving global demand for wireless headsets. The advanced stereo headset reference design accommodates stereo as well as telecom audio and features the ability to switch "on-the-fly" between mobile phones, portable audio players and other devices enabled with Bluetooth technology.

"Our headset reference design provides customers with everything they need to quickly develop and bring to market full-featured stereo headsets with unmatched audio performance and superior battery life," said Dave Wilding, senior manager, product marketing, for RF Micro Devices. "All of this is accomplished at a very competitive bill-of-materials cost, resultant from the extremely high levels of integration of both the SiW3500 and the BelaSigna 200."

Todd Schneider, vice president of technology at Dspfactory, said, "Manufacturers of portable stereo audio devices require a ready-to-go solution that can be quickly designed into multiple form factors and address both telecom and streaming audio applications. At the same time, they are seeking to meet consumer demand for great sound, low cost and extended battery life. The highly integrated reference design enabled by the SiW3500 and BelaSigna 200 fully satisfies all of these requirements."
