REWARD OFFERED IN FATAL SHOOTING.

Byline: Jesse Hiestand Daily News Staff Writer

Detectives and city officials offered a $25,000 reward Monday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of two men who gunned down a 20-year-old man who was driving a drunk friend home as a favor last month.

With no known eyewitnesses to describe the gunmen or their getaway vehicle, police say their only clue is a videotape videotape

That videotape was taken by a store's security camera and now FBI scientists are trying to enhance it so the gunmen can be seen more clearly, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police Detective Randy Sherwood of the North Hollywood Division.

The tape shows several cars in the intersection of Sherman Way and Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. It starts off at Polk Street in Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley near the junction of the San Diego (Interstate 405) and the Golden State Freeways (Interstate 5).  when the shooting occurred, Sherwood said.

``We're to a point where we've exhausted all our leads, and we're hoping the other (motorists) who were in the intersection at the time will call us and let us know what they saw,'' Sherwood said.

Lara died at the scene and Vazquez was hit in the upper left arm.

Police say the shooting was unprovoked and neither Lara nor Vazquez were gang members, Sherwood said.

Vazquez did not get a good look at the gunman or the driver of the other car, which he described only as a dark sport-utility vehicle sport-u·til·i·ty vehicle

, Sherwood said.

Flanked by 10 of Lara's relatives including his mother and aunt, Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon announced the reward Monday in a parking lot near the shooting scene.

``(Lara) did exactly what he was asked to do to prevent a car accident, and it's just ironic that he would have to pay so dearly for being a good guy,'' Alarcon said.
