REWARD GROWS IN HUNT FOR ATTACKER.

Byline: Gloria Gonzales Daily News Staff Writer

The City Council is increasing the reward for information about a man who sexually assaulted a 64-year-old woman in a mobile home on Jan. 25.

Ventura County Crimestoppers has already offered $1,000 for information that leads to the conviction of the assailant. On Tuesday, the council is expected to vote to add $5,000 to the pot.

``We've offered rewards before in serious cases,'' said Councilman Michael Markey. Markey, who is also a Compton police officer, said a reward offer frequently results in an influx of calls.

``From the information we have now, I believe this is a local person,'' Markey said. ``Several people said they have seen him around the area. . . . When you put out a reward, people who might have seen him or might know will come forward.''

The reward will be available as soon as the council votes on it Tuesday night. On Friday, each council member said they would vote to increase the reward amount.
