REWARD BUMP MAY HELP IN CASE.

CALIFORNIA California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  CITY - California City police hope a boost in a reward fund to more than $60,000 will prompt someone to come forward with information about the 2001 slaying of a prominent doctor.

Investigators have run out of leads, but Gov. Gray Davis recently approved a $50,000 reward from a state fund to add to $10,910 pledged by community members and a group called Secret Witness of Kern Kern, river, 155 mi (249 km) long, rising in the S Sierra Nevada Mts., E Calif., and flowing south, then southwest to a reservoir in the extreme southern part of the San Joaquin valley. The river has Isabella Dam as its chief facility.  County.

``The Police Department is hopeful that anyone with information will come forward and contact the Police Department,'' said Lt. Linda Lunsford. ``The investigation has continued and will continue until the party or parties responsible have been arrested.''

A billboard sign is due to go up Tuesday at California City Boulevard and Mitchell Mitchell, city (1990 pop. 13,798), seat of Davison co., SE S.Dak.; inc. 1881. Mitchell is a trade, distribution, and shipping center for a dairy and livestock area.  Avenue announcing the reward.

Dr. Burdette Thorbus, 60, who ran medical clinics in California City and Rosamond and owned a number of apartment buildings in California City, was killed just after midnight on June 26, 2001, at his home.
