REVOLVING THRILLS NEW ROLLER COASTER SPINS AS IT SPEEDS.

Byline: Naush Boghossian Staff Writer

VALENCIA - Each time a car pulled in after a dizzying spin on X, Magic Mountain's new roller coaster What a bad CD-R disc is often called. See CD-R and underrun.  at Six Flags For the national flags of Texas, see .

the most innovative ride in the industry.

``It's phenomenal, unlike any other ride ever made,'' said Ric Turner, regional representative of American Coaster Enthusiasts. ``This is more of a leap of ride technology than the vertical loop.''

In what is touted as the first ``fourth-dimensional'' ride, X's prototype design allows the seats to rotate 360 degrees, disorienting dis·o·ri·ent

``The seats are flipping to the scariest position possible for every moment of the ride,'' Turner said.

The 2 1/2-minute ride begins with a 200-foot climb that gives passengers a sweeping view of the park before propelling them head-first and face-down at an 89-degree angle. Then, at speeds of 76 mph, the car takes riders over 3,610 feet of twisting steel.

``I loved it! It was great! It was exhilarating ex·hil·a·rat·ing

! The flipping and the flopping - it's like no other ride I've ever been on,'' Charletta Parker said. ``It gives you a natural high.''

``This was worth the drive from Sacramento,'' said Amy Craig, who came with her husband to try out the ride on her day off. ``There's no other experience now like it.''

The ride, which will open to the public Saturday, is Magic Mountain's 15th, breaking the world record for the number of roller coasters While there have been hundreds of different roller coasters built, there have been just a few that were notable for specific reasons. Some reasons include:
  • first coaster of a specific kind, style, or manufacturing material; ground-breaking.
  • first use of unique technology.
 at a theme park.

``It's the best roller coaster I've been on,'' Kevin Jankowski said. ``Everything is completely unexpected. You have no idea what's coming up next.''

Turner said he could not exaggerate the exhilaration.

``Part of the reason you go on a coaster is to sacrifice some of your sense of security for an adrenaline adrenaline (ədrĕn`əlĭn, –lēn): see epinephrine.  rush. With any other coaster, you still know where you're going, because you're going where the track goes,'' Turner said. ``This ride takes that last little sense of security you had and stomps on it.''
