REVISED FORM W-9 OPTIONAL UNTIL JULY 1.


In response to payor concerns about implementing the new certification requirements, using revised Form W-9 is optional until July 1.

The major change to Form W-9, Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification (Rev. December 2000), is that under Part III, Certification, a payee The person who is to receive the stated amount of money on a check, bill, or note.


payee n. the one named on a check or promissory note to receive payment.


PAYEE. The person in whose favor a bill of exchange is made payable.

a. To confirm formally as true, accurate, or genuine.

b.
 that he or she is a U.S. person (including a U.S. resident alien Resident Alien

A foreigner who is a permanent resident of the country he or she resides, but does not have citizenship.

Notes:
Resident and non-resident aliens have different filing advantages and disadvantages.
