RETRACING EVERLASTING LOVE.

Byline: - Mary Vose

Warren and Katherine Kreis of Granada Hills celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary from April 22 through May 7, 2000, by retracing their honeymoon.

The two met through Katherine's brother, an instructor at the Masonic Lodge that Warren had recently joined. After a two-year courtship courtship

, the couple were married on April 22, 1950, at Christ Community Church in Lindenwold, N.J. On their honeymoon, they stayed overnight at the Hotel du Pont Du Pont (dpŏnt), family notable in U.S. industrial history. The Du Pont family's importance began when Eleuthère Irénée Du Pont established a gunpowder mill on the  in Wilmington, Del. where they paid $8 a night for their room. Then they made their way through the Blue Ridge Mountains Blue Ridge also Blue Ridge Mountains

.

They called the Hotel du Pont to reserve a room 50 years later and were told that the rate was $309 a night. When Katherine asked the hotel clerk if there was anything the hotel could do for them since they were celebrating their 50th anniversary, she was told that the hotel would accommodate their request if they could produce proof that they spent their honeymoon there and they could have a room for the same price they paid on their honeymoon.

That was not a problem for the Kreises - they had kept the original hotel receipt among their honeymoon mementos. With it in hand, they checked into their 10th-floor room for $8. Inside they found a bottle of champagne and a fruit basket, courtesy of the hotel. The next day they retraced their trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
