RESTING BUTLER LIKELY WILL MOVE TO THE 60-DAY DL.Byline: Tim Brown Timothy Donell Brown (born July 22, 1966) is a retired wide receiver, who played in the National Football League. He spent sixteen years with the Oakland Raiders, during which he established himself as one of the League's most prolific wide receivers. Daily News Staff Writer Dodgers center fielder Brett Butler Brett Butler can refer to different people:

It is likely that the Dodgers soon will transfer Butler from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list, therefore creating room on the 40-man roster. They will not release Butler. Right-hander Darren Hall, who had elbow surgery and will not pitch again this season, also is a candidate for the 60-day disabled list. Butler, of course, will continue to draw his $2 million salary through this season, at which time he will become a natural free agent. This week he told his wife, Eveline, that he did not intend to play baseball again. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, the Dodgers and Butler discussed coaching opportunities within the organization, perhaps as a roving instructor. Butler, 38, told teammates earlier this year that if the Dodgers were to have a successful season, it would seem an appropriate time to retire. Off at the top: Chad Fonville, Butler's replacement at the top of the Dodgers' batting order, has three hits in 29 at-bats since Butler left the team. More alarming, he has not drawn a walk in his past 32 plate appearances. Said manager Tom Lasorda: ``He hasn't been bunting much. He's along with everybody else. He's in a slump. He's not getting on base. That's his job, to get on base. That's what Butler did.'' Minor improvement: Right-hander Ramon Martinez made his second minor-league rehabilitation start Thursday night in Vero Beach, Fla. Martinez, who strained his groin April 6 in Chicago, could be back in the rotation by Tuesday. Most in the organization believe Pedro Astacio will be moved to the bullpen, though he pitched seven two-hit innings Tuesday in Cincinnati.
