McGuire and his brother, James, opened My Brothers Bar-B-Que in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. in December 1957, later opening a second restaurant in what was then semi-rural Woodland Hills. The brothers went on to open two additional barbecue restaurants in Van Nuys and Canoga Park. The Canoga Park site eventually became a dinner house with a full bar and banquet rooms called McGuire's Irish Pub on Devonshire Street. ``He was a very, very nice guy. An absolute gentleman. If there were more like him, there would be peace on Earth,'' said John Patrick Toole, a friend of McGuire's since 1979 when they were both ushers at St. Mel Catholic Church in Woodland Hills. ``Never once did I ever hear him raise his voice. Such a nice, tender man.'' McGuire loved to cook and took classes to increase his repertoire. Toole recalled dining on his friend's corned beef and cabbage and ``the best'' Irish bread pudding. ``He had a sense of humor Noun 1. sense of humor - the trait of appreciating (and being able to express) the humorous; "she didn't appreciate my humor"; "you can't survive in the army without a sense of humor" sense of humour, humor, humour and he looked for the best in people. After high school, McGuire had planned to become a veterinarian veterinarian /vet·er·i·nar·i·an/ (vet?er-i-nar´e-an) a person trained and authorized to practice veterinary medicine and surgery; a doctor of veterinary medicine. vet·er·i·nar·i·an n. and was studying at Texas A&M when he changed his mind and moved to California with his brother and sister, Patricia. McGuire retired in 1998 to Prescott, Ariz. He traveled, entertained and was a church volunteer during his retirement years. Frank Joseph McGuire was born on July 24, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn. McGuire never married and had no children. He is survived by nieces Jan Delia and Patti Tudbury; nephews Don Dildine, Kevin McGuire, John McGuire, Mike McGuire and Frank McGuire and 26 grand nieces and nephews.
