RESTAURATEUR CRIEZIS, 61, OWNER OF THE GREAT GREEK.

Ernie Criezis, 61, owner of the Great Greek in Sherman Oaks, died of cardiac arrest Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a world-renowned hospital located in Los Angeles, California. History
Cedars-Sinai is the result of a merger in 1961 between two major Los Angeles hospitals, Cedars of Lebanon and Mount Sinai Home for the Incurables, with Steve Broidy as
 while undergoing dialysis.

Criezis and his former wife, Vicki Criezis, created the Moonlight Tango Cafe in Sherman Oaks, which she runs.

The two also had a Greek restaurant called Cafe Athens in Santa Monica.

 and U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, was a Columbia University graduate and an international restaurateur who at various times operated 18 well-known spots in Houston and Paris as well as Los Angeles.

His major restaurant and supper-club achievement in Houston was the Great Caruso.

Others were La Bastille Bastille (băstēl`) [O.Fr.,=fortress], fortress and state prison in Paris, located, until its demolition (started in 1789), near the site of the present Place de la Bastille. It was begun c. , Fat Ernie's, Harlow's, and the first Great Greek.

In Paris he created the Hollywood Savoy, still in operation under different ownership.

His investors included many show business people such as Jack Carter, David Steinberg, Berry Gordy, Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook.

The funeral for Criezis is at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church stood across Liberty Street from the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City, USA. It was completely destroyed in the September 11, 2001 attacks when the South Tower collapsed.  in Northridge.

Criezis is survived by his daughter, Cristina, and son, Christopher.
