RESTAURANTS TO JOIN LOCAL RETAIL SITE; CHAIN EATERIES WILL BE BUILT AT NEW VALENCIA COMPLEX.

A trio of trendy chain restaurants are on board to open in the summer as part of the emerging Valencia Entertainment Plaza.

Johnny Rockets Johnny Rockets is an American burger restaurant franchise whose motif is meant to recreate the American diners of the 1940s and 1950s.

Its restaurants' decor include jukeboxes, chrome accents and red leather seats, and customers are waited on by waiters and waitresses

 Grille grille, in architecture, a system of bars, usually of decorative metalwork, forming an openwork barrier or enclosure. Newhall Land also plans a cafe across across McBean Parkway on Town Center Drive along with a Koo Koo Roo, a cafeteria-style eatery known for its chicken, but also serving soups, salads and sandwiches.

``We're trying to bring a good mix of dining opportunities - casual, upscale, family-oriented, adult-oriented,'' Maglione said. ``We want to have a nice mix of popular, well-known eateries and some independent bistros and cafes.''

Adding to the array, a larger chain restaurant is planned next to the Dean Witter Dean Witter may refer to:

  • Dean Witter Reynolds (brokerage firm, now known as Morgan Stanley)
 building at the Town Center, Maglione said.

``We'd like to bring a more upscale restaurant, maybe with some entertainment, a more nightclub atmosphere,'' Maglione said. ``We're working to find the right mix.''

The theater complex, now a huge steel skeleton rising on the northeast side of Town Center Drive, is due to open in the summer.

Salt Creek Grille is popular in Dana Point, with its Frank Lloyd Wright-style architecture, fireplace dining and eclectic menu of mesquite-grilled meats and seafood.

Poquito Mas, freshly made Mexican food, and Johnny Rockets, a 1950s-themed hamburger/hot dog diner diner, restaurant resembling the railroad dining car that is its source. In the mid-19th cent., the first dining cars that appeared on trains were nothing more than an empty car with a fastened-down table. George M. , will be small free-standing spots on the plaza. Both will offer outdoor dining.

There is a demand for more local restaurants, Maglione said.

``People are telling us that what they'd like to see as part of Town Center Drive is more of the popular restaurants,'' she said. ``And they want a variety.''

The goal is a pedestrian friendly night spot in the center of town.
