LOUIS P. BATSON INC.

Offers a series of desiccant dryers capable of drying material to -40 [degrees] F dewpoint with high efficiency blowers. Hopper sizes from 60-100 lb with process temperature to 300 [degrees] F.

BRY-AIR SYSTEMS DIV. OF BAY-AIR, INC.

Resin dehumidifiers and hot-air dryers for extrusion, injection and blow molding applications. Desiccant-based dehumidifiers range from 20 to 5000 cfm and include "fluted bed" desiccant technology. Options include digital dewpointers, diagnostics, central drying system, after-cooling coils, and heaters mounted at the hopper for additional energy savings. Larger units include natural gas regeneration and heat recovery coils for energy efficiency. Also dehumidifying powder drying systems in single- or multiple-batch capacities.

Mold dehumidification systems (MDS) are designed to eliminate mold condensation during high humidity periods. Surrounding the mold enclosure with dry, dehumidified air, MDS-3 system allows injection and blow molders to reduce cooling cycle times up to 30%.

BAS "Smart-Dry" diagnostics package is standard on all FDL series resin dryers. Package offers 7-day timer, monitors dew point, process and regeneration temperatures, return air temperatures, process and regeneration blowers, and alarm functions, which may affect the drying process. CACTUS MACHINERY INC.

Cactus super dryers in five sizes for processing engineering resins to 150 lb/hr within 30 min of start-up. An alternative to batch-type desiccant drying, Cactus system operates on a continuous basis. Small amounts of resin are heated quickly to force moisture to pellet surface. Compressed air-powered venturi creates air flow across resin to transport surface moisture from resin. Low-wattage heater bands reportedly reduce electrical consumption to 80% less than comparable desiccant dryers. With no moving parts, maintenance is virtually eliminated. Microprocessor controls maintain accurate and constant temperature inside dryer for consistent-quality parts. Predrying is not required.

CANAM MANUFACTURED PRODUCTS INC.

Thermodynamic plastic dryers utilize the application of radiant conducted heat to accelerate the drying process and are intended for use with molding or extrusion machines processing up to 50 lb/hr of material.

CARRIER VIBRATING EQUIPMENT

For drying various sizes and types of pellets, offers its 12-in. x 15-ft, 1-hp stainless-steel conveyor dryers with unit and hood insulation and low profile to fit together with inline equipment. Air temperature and volume controlled to maintain pellet quality.

For drying PET chips in a bottle recycling process, offers two-zone, stainless-steel, 2 x 10 ft, 2-hp, fluid-bed dryers furnished as a system with auxiliaries, which include steam coils, noise attenuators, dust collectors, slide gates, valves and discharge-drum covers. Air temperatures and volumes controlled to dry chips to specified levels and prevent melting or fusing.

CARTER-DAY INDUSTRIES (CANADA) LTD.

SpinAway centrifugal dryer for cost-effective drying of flakes or pellets. Capacities from 100 to 110,000 lb/hr, drying to moisture levels to less than 0.05%. Dryer has reinforced rotor-lifter-plate design for extended rotor life. Logarithmic lifter-blade spacing in the rotor design increases the pellet resident time, enhancing drying; and horizontal air-flow forces water and air through the screen rather than out the pellet discharge. Unit requires minimal space, low horsepower, and is designed for continuous, uninterrupted production. Accessories include dewatering units, moist-air exhaust fans, air preheaters, internal washdown spray systems, hardened rotors, pellet-free rotors, and low-noise construction.

COMET AUTOMATION SYSTEMS, INC.

Series SD dryers for drying resins at a rate of 15-100 lb/hr. Dual desiccant beds provide low dewpoint of -40 F with completely automatic regeneration cycle. Space-saving construction permits on-machine or separate mounting. Solid-state temperature control enhances reliability. Dryers constructed so that all metal that comes in contact with plastic is stainless-steel, thus preventing contamination from corrosion. Also Series CDD dryers for drying resins at a rate of 85-3000 lb/hr. All dryers are available with optional Allen Bradley controls and SPI communications protocol.

Sensi-Dry weigh dryer mounts the drying hopper onto load cells that sense the weight of the hopper and its contents. Allen-Bradley controller periodically polls the load cells for weight information, determining the rate at which material is being removed from the drying hopper. This capacity to control feed rate into the hopper virtually eliminates material degradation by ensuring that material does not remain in the hopper for an extended period. Sensi-Dry is also available with Man Machine Interface (MMI). Windows-based 95/98 interface allows operators to set and adjust parameters of both the dryer and conveying system on the spot.

CONAIR

Dryers and drying systems feature multiple, carousel-mounted desiccant cartridges and true closed-loop regeneration that uses air for desiccant cooling.

Good/better/best range of medium-sized carousel dehumidifying dryers includes CM series, which incorporates a standard off-the-shelf controller, and CS series with standard microprocessor controls with return air temperature monitoring. Top-of-the-line CD dryers come with a deluxe microprocessor controller with 40-character vacuum fluorescent display, real-time clock, and a process protection system that adds an adjustable high-temperature safety shutoff on the process heat circuit. All can deliver throughputs from 100 to 350 lb/hr. Controls allow easy setting of process temperatures from 160 F to 375 F. Dewpoint monitoring available as is the Power Miser 2 energy saving system, which regulates the process heaters and airflow to conserve power when the dryer is operating at less than rated capacity.

Small-carousel SC series mini-dryers process as little as 10 lb/hr up to 100 lb/hr. Units include a stainless-steel drying hopper that can be mounted directly onto machine throat, on a floor stand, or configured as a mobile drying/conveyor (MDC) with hopper, dryer and material conveyor blow, all mounted on a mobile platform for flexibility and quick material changes.

Large CD dryers are suitable for high-throughput (450 to 600 lb/hr) central drying applications. Using patented carousel design with true closed-loop desiccant regeneration, CD dryers provide energy-efficient, spikefree drying of hygroscopic plastics to a -40-degree dewpoint. CDG gas-fired dryers can provide up to 70% energy savings compared with similarly sized electric heat dryers. Efficient ceramic fiber matrix, flameless radiant burners heat both the process and regeneration air.

GasTrac gas-fired process air heater can convert any electric dryer to gas heating.

DM-l drying monitor provides accurate, real-time information on all four key parameters--temperature, air flow, time and dewpoint--to ensure complete and uniform material drying. Temperature probe measures material temperature at six different locations in drying hopper, making it easy to detect reduced air flow, improper hopper or dryer size, unsuitable dewpoint levels, loss of material flow, improper temperature settings or power failures.

Central Distribution System (CDS) provides centralized material drying and handling. Each system is customized, but the basic system features several insulated central drying hoppers served by a single carousel dehumidifying dryer. Each hopper has individual air-heater boxes for precise air temperatures and eliminates heat loss from long hose runs from dryer to hopper. DM-l drying monitors check material temperatures to maintain proper drying conditions. A vacuum system directs material from any of the drying hoppers to processing machines. Pocket conveying valve prevents moisture regain.

Hot-air dryers are suitable for removing surface moisture and preheating nonhygroscopic materials at up to 250 F. Five models available to handle throughputs from 200 to 3000 lb/hr.

Three models of crystallizers are offered for conditioning PET. Gas or electric models are available to change material from an amorphous state to a crystalline state at rates of 500, 1000, or 3000 lb/hr. Modular design allows complete disassembly for cleaning.

DRI-AIR INDUSTRIES, INC.

Desiccant dryers and drying systems with throughputs from 10 to 500 lb/hr. Arid-X dryer series is an industry standard dual desiccant bed dryer that supplies a continuous -40 F dewpoint. HP4-X series offers a high-performance four desiccant bed dryer that can achieve -60 F dewpoints. Both series include automatic regeneration.

Arid-X and FHP4-X series available in press-mounted, beside-the-press and portable models with one or two hoppers. Portable system features optional closed-loop loading system that includes single bag filter, controls and blower integrated on a common castered floor frame. Press-mounted hoppers are eliminated and replaced with a small, filterless receiver. Dual-hopper systems suitable for quick material changes and on-the-fly processing.

Off-the-press drying/blending systems for virgin, regrind and colorants. Designed for quick changes and on-the-fly ratio changes. Placement of augers under hoppers eliminates hoppers full of premix.

FASTI USA, INC.

Economical Resin Dryer (ERD) is a patented new approach to drying resins, which makes use of the inherently-low dewpoint of compressed air to produce a low-cost and low-maintenance drying system. Because no desiccant regeneration is needed, drying air temperatures do not fluctuate and therefore can be kept close to the optimum drying temperature for each resin without overheating, ERDs are available in three standard size ranges--Baby, Junior, and Senior--for processing from 2 to 3000 lb/hr. Systems use heat recovered from a compressor or exhaust air from a blow molding machine offer additional savings. Systems can be dedicated to one machine or centralized.

FOREMOST MACHINE BUILDERS, INC.

Dehumidifying hopper dryers in a range of drying capacities. Design reportedly uses less electricity than conventional units for equivalent throughput. Features include crossflow regeneration for extremely low dewpoints with no spikes. Standard high-heat/PET models available.

GALA INDUSTRIES, INC.

Centrifugal dryers to process up to 150,000 lb/hr of thermoplastics and elastomers. Drying process takes place in three phases. In the dewatering phase 90-95% of water is removed by impact and gravity. Vertical predewatering screens provide a large screen area in a small space. In the impact phase the product is forced spirally upward from the bottom to the top of the rotor area, reducing water content to between 0.5-1.0%. Final phase takes place in the upper part of the rotor area as dry air passes through the spiraling product. Surface moisture of nil to 0.05% can be reached on most smooth, warm products. Dryers feature stainless-steel construction, pellet-free rotors, quick cleanup, low noise, and need only a small area for installation. Options include agglomerate catchers, exhaust blowers, inlet and outlet inspection windows, wear-resistant coating and heavy-duty construction for abrasive polymers, air heaters, safety lock door systems, and pellet water tanks.

GRUENBERG OVEN

Granulate dryers up to 500 F with a uniformity of +9[degree] F available in truck-load or shelf-load design. Standard stainlesssteel interiors, continuously welded liners, and HEPA filtration prevent contamination. Optional explosion-resistant design and customization available.

HAMILTON AVTEC INC.

Accudry dehumidifying dryers for critical drying applications, and the 2000 series hotair dryers for nonhygroscopic applications.

Ten models of automatic desiccant dryers use a molecular-sieve desiccant to trap moisture within a closed drying system. Several desiccant cartridges are provided, which are periodically indexed to a regeneration cycle. Programmable microprocessor controls provide LCD messages for initial settings and performance data and alarm conditions.

Hot-air dryers come with an integrated, stainless-steel-lined drying hopper that mounts on the processing machine. Floor-mounted models available. Seven models provide drying ranges from a few lb/hr to more than 1000 lb/hr, depending on material type. An air-flow regulator balances blower cfm for drying efficiency.

IMS CO.

Three styles of hopper dryers for use at the press include Model HAD75l low-cost, hot-air unit for use with nonhygroscopic materials that can serve more than one press. Model MD75050A refrigerant-type dryer suitable for many hygroscopic materials. RD-Series desiccant dryers use four rotating desiccant beds for consistent low dewpoint. A variety of convection and forced air-type drying ovens also available. (See ad p. 281)

K-TRON AMERICA

Resin dryers with drying hoppers ensure constant -40 F dewpoint air or lower. Precision air-temperature controls maintain an accuracy of +2 F. Advance warning systems reduce downtime. Optional dewpoint control systems for dewpoint quality and energy savings.

LABOTEK INC.

Desiccant dryer/loaders (DDL) combine loading, desiccant drying, and automatic regeneration in one compact unit. Features a floor-mounted control panel with functions displayed by graphics and light signals. Residual moisture levels down to 0.02% are achieved. Units operate on low power, have hopper-magnet shut-off slide valve, discharge valve for easy material change, and come in nine sizes. Also DDL-HT for drying PET bottle resins to moisture levels of 0.002%.

Mobile desiccant dryer/loaders (DDM) combine in one mobile unit the dryer, desiccant, automatic regeneration, and automatic conveying of dried material to process machine using predried hot air. Special discharge fitting acts as level control on process machine hopper. DDM can feed two process machines at the same time. Available in three sizes with the Con-Evator three-phase hopper loader.

Desiccant central dryer (DCD) dries one or more granular materials to less than 0.02% moisture in one or more drying hoppers using a central power pack, which comes in six sizes. Hoppers have individual heaters and temperature controllers, making it possible to dry different materials at the same time.

Conti-Crystallizer (CC) designed to be a fully automatic continuous crystallizer for amorphous PET and regrind is compact, easy to operate, and has a built-in conveyor. Unit has PLC controls with a touch-sensitive operations monitor that displays information in easy-to-understand messages. Conveying hopper has a level control, which ensures crystallization of equal amounts of raw materials in each batch. Crystallization hopper is insulated and equipped with air distributor and heavy-duty mixing screw that keeps material constantly moving, ensuring no clogging or blockages.

LITTLEFORD DAY INC.

Dryers and drying systems for resin powders, pigments, pellets and other particulates in conjunction with mixing, blending, processing and reaction. Vertical conical Mark II processor/mixer drying systems can handle up to 1400 cu ft/batch. Jacketed, vacuum or pressure designs available.

LYDON BROTHERS CORP.

Three standard electrically heated, resintray drying ovens include Model 1330-1-T3, 12-tray small lab unit with average capacity of 100 lb; Model 1330-2-T3, medium 24-tray unit with 200-lb average capacity; and Model 1330-5-T3, 40-tray unit with capacity to 600 lb.

Standard systems include indication of temperature to 350 F, timer, and high limit. Options to customize ovens to the process include desiccant systems, dewpoint instruments, recorders, chillers and filtration. Custom industrial ovens for drying, PTFE sintering, aging and curing, preheating, decorating, annealing, and thermoforming.

MATSUI AMERICA, INC.

DMZ drying systems feature desiccant rotor that spins and regenerates continuously, constantly feeding fresh desiccant to process. The resulting supply of stable, low dewpoint air substantially increases dryer performance. Main benefits include short drying times (PC in 1.5 hr), better drying performance, quicker material changes; lifetime desiccant, which eliminates replacement, bad product produced by wornout beds, and costly downtime; and standard high-quality stainless-steel drying hopper, aftercooler, and microprocessor control. Systems reportedly reduce energy consumption by 15% to 45%.

MECH-ELECTRO INDUSTRIES INC.

PET crystallizers and dehumidifying dryers come in sizes from 500 to over 3000 lb/hr and easily adapt to other resins.

Crystallizer agitators designed and built to reduce agglomeration and fines. Direct-drive, all-helical gearmotor and lubed-for-life superduty shaft bearings give high-energy efficiency and very low maintenance.

Dryers typically run at -70[degrees] F to -55[degrees] F dewpoint permitting the least time and temperature possible for efficient drying and little or no loss of IV. Microprocessor PLC logic and PID temperature controls, safety switches for air failure and overheating, and an hour meter are standard. SPI protocol is available.

Microprocessor controls feature large digital display of set and actual temperature, alarm codes, and cam-cycle sequence codes. Units utilize solid-bed design with low-watt-density Calrod heaters. MOTAN, INC.

Controls may be networked with company's LinkNet panel for creating an historical database. LinkNet can function as the sole operator interface for an entire material-handling system.

Dryers utilize closed-loop regeneration and bed-cooling system for continuous low dewpoint spike-free operation. Features include dual stationary desiccant beds, quickacting bed switching valves and change-inplace desiccant capabilities. Systems utilize direct "at-the-bin" heating of process air to ensure precise temperature control and maximum heating efficiency. Patented ETA-process heat-recovery system reinforces energy savings and efficiencies.

Beside-the-press dryers range from 50-120 lb/hr and can be stand-alone or mounted to a self-contained portable cart. Machine- or floor-mounted drying systems with capacities from 15 to 50 lb/hr utilize a dual-tower process with fully automatic regeneration. Modular stainless-steel hoppers are standard in either insulated or noninsulated versions. Series of self-contained portable drying and conveying systems with closed-loop material conveying and JIT vacuum receivers available in 15-, 25- and 50-lb/hr configurations.

Dehumidifying dryer has multidrying beds of molecular sieves, which give a clean-drying low dewpoint (-40 F) without the aid of a chiller. Drying beds have a high void ratio and feature low pressure drop. Recirculating vacuum-type system accelerates drying to less than two hours on hygroscopic materials such as polycarbonate.

STOKES VACUUM, INC.

THORESON-MCCOSH INC.

Line of resin dryers matched to hoppers that uniformly expose resin to drying air includes TD series desiccant dryers in 17 models with airflows from 6 to 2000 cfm. Units feature indexing, three-bed design with closed process-air circuit. Design allows in-process cooldown of the regenerated bed with recovery of residual regeneration heat and cooldown with the dry process stream rather than with ambient air. Optional Tech II microprocessor control has seven-day timer with battery backup, display of operating parameters, alarms, and system-operating diagnostics.

H series hot-air dryers available in 11 sizes with airflows from 12 to 2000 cfm. Units heat and circulate air through the resin, removing any surface moisture, and are for use on nonhygroscopic materials. Often used to remove condensation from materials brought into a warm plant from cold outdoor storage.

UNIVERSAL DYNAMICS INC. A CO. OF MANN+HUMMEL GROUP

DHD and PCT series dehumidifying hopper dryers with process airflow up to 3000 cfm, low dewpoint to -100 F (average dewpoint -40 F), and pulse cooling technology. Units have a minimum of moving parts; clamps provide easy and quick access to the regeneration heater, process heater, and desiccant beds. Designed for safety and efficiency, heater packages use tubular elements, double-wall construction and insulation, reducing power consumption. Tubular heaters with low-watt density increase heater life. Multiple electric heater elements provide redundancy and extend heater life. DHD series comes with a PLC controller. Additionally, there are two expanded microprocessor controls available. All microprocessor controls feature SPI communications protocol capabilities, material saver, digital dewpoint monitoring, multilevel password protection and more. UDC series dehumidifying hopper dryers in four models ranging from 30 to 150 cfm. Standard features include microprocessor controls, material saver function with automatic temperature setback to a maintenance level, stainless-steel and aluminum internal components, mirror finish stainless exterior, digital dewpoint monitor, and SPI communications protocol. Standard configurations include hopper mount, floor mount with process air heater located in dryer enclosure, or floor mount with process air heater mounted remotely on the hopper for optimum efficiency. Dryers complement modular hoppers and combine to create modular drying systems in a variety of configurations.

AutoDry series hopper dryers have no moving parts and are simple to install and operate. Self-contained units with temperature ranges from 100 F to 375 F, 120 and 230 volts, and hopper sizes from 20 to 120 lb.

Gas Pack retrofit kit will convert expensive electrical units to low-cost natural gas. Unit is an easy bolt-on kit. Proprietary non-ceramic-woven metallic burner is designed for extended life span. Operation of the existing dryer is not affected. Gas Packs are available from 200 scfm/8kW to 4000 scfm/ 320kw. Vibrating fluid-bed, Continuous dryers/coolers provide rapid drying and/or cooling. Turbo-Dryer has only two moving parts: tray/shelf assembly and fan assembly, both rotating independently in a fixed sealed housing.

Wet feed enters the Turbo-Dryer through a feed chute in the roof of the housing and flows onto the first shelf. Shelves are circular with cut-out center and radial slots and are rigidly mounted on an inner supporting frame, forming a vertical stack, which rotates slowly as a unit. Material flows onto each shelf from the one above, forming a pile. The rotation of the tray/shelf assembly carries the pile past a stationary blade set to level the pile to fill the tray at a uniform height. At the end of a revolution, the tray segment meets a second stationary blade set Lo wipe the tray clean of material. Material is held stationary by the wiper blade, while the tray continues its rotation. It flows through the radial slot onto the shelf below when the cycle is repeated and then progresses downward from shelf to shelf through thc dryer and is discharged through a chute the housing bottom.

Air or other drying medium is fed to thc Turbo-Dryer through a side-mounted vertical manifold with control dampers. Air moves inside the dryer by centrifugal fans mounted on a single vertical shaft. Fan assembly fits into the shelf assembly, rotating independently of the shelves. Drying medium leaves the dryer through a roof exhaust.

Turbo-Dryer housing, totally sealed, encloses and supports both tray/shelf and fan assemblies; supports stationary parts of the dryer, wipers and levelers; and consists of a metal frame and insulated side panels, roof, and bottom.
