The bees, which can travel up to 30 miles a day, recently were seen in Riverside County. City officials estimate the bees could arrive in Santa Clarita by August or September. Africanized honeybees are more aggressive than other bees and attack in groups but are largely indistinguishable and have the same type of venom as other bees. If the insects attack, city officials are warning residents to pull a jacket or shirt over their heads and run to a safe place.
