RESIDENTS TO PATROL LITTLEROCK.

Hoping to deter peach peach, fruit tree (Prunus persica) of the family Rosaceae (rose family) having decorative pink blossoms and a juicy, sweet drupe fruit. The peach appears to have originated in China, where it was mentioned in literature several centuries before Christ.  thieves, illegal dumpers and vandals, a volunteer citizens group will begin patrolling Littlerock today watching for illegal activity.

The Littlerock Volunteers Organized to Improve Community Environment members will serve as extra eyes and ears for sheriff's deputies by patrolling shopping centers shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into , parks and other areas, watching for any suspicious activity and reporting it to the Sheriff's Department.

``This is going to have a great impact on the community,'' said Capt. Joe Hladky, the Palmdale sheriff's station commander, speaking to the team in front of its office in a garage and storage building behind the Littlerock fire station. ``You being out in the community is going to make our life better.''

Marlene Mallory, president of the Littlerock Town Council and a VOICE volunteer, said the patrols will help make anti-crime efforts more visible.

``The Littlerock Town Council gets a lot of people complaining about illegal dumping or thefts in peach orchards or vandals,'' said Mallory. ``I told them to put their money where their mouth is, and many of them have (joined the VOICE program).''

Peach stealing is a problem in Littlerock, Mallory said.

``People come from out of town and are taking peaches overnight,'' said Mallory. ``By the time deputies get there, the trees are stripped and the trucks are gone. If they see the VOICE car, it may deter their activity.''
