The board voted at last week's meeting to form the advisory group, which will consist of nine people drawn from the board, the district office, schools, employee unions and the community. ``Their job will be to make recommendations on specific choices and options regarding high school construction and construction districtwide,'' Superintendent Wallace Wal·lace , Alfred Russel 1823-1913. If a new high school is built, Mojave High School could still remain open with its smaller enrollment by being designated as a so-called ``necessary, small high school,'' which receives a special type of funding from the state, McCormick said. ``Both communities want their own high schools and rightly so. We're trying to figure out how to make that happen,'' McCormick said, who added it may entail entail, in law, restriction of inheritance to a limited class of descendants for at least several generations. The object of entail is to preserve large estates in land from the disintegration that is caused by equal inheritance by all the heirs and by the ordinary sharing of programs, facilities and services. The topic of constructing a high school in California City surfaced last year when the board voted down a proposal by former trustee Richard Hall to build a California City high school and turn Mojave High School into a middle school as part of a proposed $55 million parcel tax. The plan drew heavy opposition from Mojave residents but was supported by California City residents. Board member Annette Edblad voted against that parcel tax but said she is willing to consider a second high school now because residents were behind the latest drive. ``California City residents elected me to represent them, and I will,'' Edblad said. ``One thing different is we have a grass-roots effort, and that makes all the difference. If I lived out there, I would certainly like to have a high school. I would do no less for them than I would do for myself.'' |
