RESIDENTS' WISH LIST RELEASED; PALMDALE ACTS ON RESPONSES TO SURVEY.

Byline: Jim Skeen Staff Writer

Palmdale residents want to be able to buy some gourmet cheese or milk at a Trader Joe's Trader Joe's is a privately held chain of specialty grocery stores headquartered in Monrovia, California. As of September 2007, Trader Joe's has a total of 284 stores.[1]  store or munch munch - To transform information in a serial fashion, often requiring large amounts of computation. They also would like to see improvements to the city's eastside, where vacant homes and empty storefronts stand in contrast to the new businesses and homes going up on the westside.

Those items topped a wish list of Palmdale residents surveyed during the recent Fall Festival.

In an informal survey of 209 people during the Oct. 9-10 Fall Festival, 43 respondents said they wanted a Trader Joe's grocery store. They also said they would like to see a Robinson's-May department store and a Disney Store.

The survey, which debuted at last year's festival, is not intended to be a scientific poll, but rather a quick snapshot of how residents feel, city officials said.

``It gives us an idea of where we need to work in our city and what we need,'' Mayor Jim Ledford said of the survey.

City officials have contacted Trader Joe's executives about the possibility of bringing a store to Palmdale. Trader Joe's indicated an interest, but did not offer any specific time frame for adding a Palmdale store, Palmdale officials said.

The nearest Trader Joe's is in Valencia - as are the nearest Claim Jumper, Disney Store and Robinson's-May.

, Ohio-based Forest City, did try for several years to bring in a Robinson's-May, but were unable to complete a deal.

In its place, the city and Forest City lined up Dillard's, an Arkansas-based chain, which is scheduled to open next month.

Recruiting a Disney Store might prove to be more problematic. In July, Disney announced they plan to revamp their 700-store Disney Store chain because of poor sales.

In the category of restaurants, Claim Jumper, the No. 2 most requested restaurant in last year's survey, swapped places with the leader of last year's poll - T.G.I. Fridays. Both restaurant chains The following is a list of restaurant chains.

have been approached. The developers of the Palmdale Marketplace are aggressively pursuing a T.G.I. Fridays, Ledford said.

The third most requested eatery, Starbucks, will become a reality. A Starbucks will be included in the Barnes & Noble bookstore slated to open in early 2000 in the Palmdale Marketplace shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into , on 10th Street West south of Avenue P.

Respondents were also asked for suggestions to improve the city. The No. 1 response was improvements to the city's eastside followed by the addition of an ice skating ice skating, gliding along an ice surface on keellike runners known as ice skates. Skating as a Sport

The city already has started a $2.7 million, six-year program to improve the look of the city's eastside. The city will add trees and decorative, stamped concrete Stamped concrete is concrete that is patterned and/or textured to resemble brick, slate, flagstone, stone, tile, wood, and various other patterns and textures. Some eastside neighborhoods were developed before the city enacted higher standards for development, such as sidewalks and street lights, city officials say. Others were in former unincorporated territory which was annexed onto the city.

The first years of the program will focus on street medians and landscaping. The focus will later shift to sidewalk projects.

As for the ice skating rink, the city is working with a developer to bring a retail center that could include such a facility on Avenue P east of the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. . The retail center will be anchored by a stadium-style seating movie theater multiplex.

The survey also asked if respondents knew of a company looking to expand or relocate. The city received 20 possible leads.
