``Traffic and stray dogs are two big concerns in the county areas,'' sheriff's Lt. Animal Control and Care Officer Leslie Troncale said stray dogs travel in packs and attack pigs, goats, chicken and sheep.

``This happens quite frequently,'' Troncale said. ``A lot of people don't think that their dogs are getting out and causing problems. Many of them have more than their legal limit of three.''

Last month, sheriff's deputies and animal control officers organized a roundup that collared 20 stray dogs into custody and resulted in citations to at least 15 dog owners.

Officials said the campaign is aimed at improving the quality of life in the communities it targets.
