RESIDENTS, BERNARDI FILE SUIT FIGHTING REDEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.

A residents group joined former City Councilman Ernani Bernardi Ernani Bernardi (October 29, 1911-January 4, 2006) was a politician in Los Angeles, California. He represented District 7 on the Los Angeles City Council from 1961 to 1993, a district that covered the east San Fernando Valley.  in filing a lawsuit Thursday to block the City Council's recent action extending the North Hollywood redevelopment program for 11 more years.

The lawsuit alleges that the council approved the extension of the plan based on faulty financial projections by the Community Redevelopment Agency and outdated information on the existence of blight blight, general term for any sudden and severe plant disease or for the agent that causes it. The term is now applied chiefly to diseases caused by bacteria (e.g., bean blights and fire blight of fruit trees), viruses (e.g., soybean bud blight), fungi (e.g.  in North Hollywood.

The 740-acre North Hollywood Redevelopment Project Area was created 17 years ago to divert increases in property tax revenue to encourage development in economically distressed area.
