CENTEX Centex (NYSE: CTX) began trading publicly in 1969. Since the company’s founding in 1950 as a Dallas-based residential construction company, it has evolved into a company whose principal operations are focused on residential and commercial construction and related  HOMES

markets placed Centex Homes atop the pack of L.A. County's most active homebuilders in 2000.

Centex replaced KB Home as the top residential real estate developer in a county where people keep buying houses regardless of the economic winds.

"The housing market has remained unexpectedly robust with what's happening in the rest of the market," said John Ochsner, Centex division president for Los AngelesNentura counties. "Interest rates have continued to spur sales. As long as homeowners are confident, they are going to remain in the market."

Centex builds homes ranging in price from $305,000 to $750,000. The company focuses largely in the San Gabriel Valley, the Westside and Torrance Torrance, industrial and residential city (1990 pop. 133,107), Los Angeles co., SW Calif.; inc. 1921. It has large aircraft and electronics industries. Among its many manufactures are aircraft, electronics, communications equipment, aluminum products, steel, and , and has benefited from an under-supplied market. "When you're you're

A shortage of land is helping push prices up, he said. "You cannot buy land that allows you to deliver homes at any sort of affordable price," he said.

"There's a side of me that would like to tell you we're we're
