However, Joseph Looney (78 yards, 13 carries) fumbled at the Narbonne 1-yard line with 4:40 remaining.

Nelson then connected with Smith on a 37-yard touchdown pass, culminating an eight-play, 87-yard drive to set up the potential game-tying conversion that went awry a·wry

The Gauchos were fortunate even to get the chance at a comeback. They faced fourth-and-13 at their own 25 when Nelson completed a 17-yard pass; 15 yards were tacked on because of an unsportsmanlike penalty on Reseda.

``We gave them a lot of stuff to play with,'' said Reseda head coach Joel Schaeffer. ``We gave them many opportunities.''

Reseda offset three turnovers by recovering a fumble and collecting six sacks on Nelson for minus-38 yards.

Quarterback Skyler McKnight (4 of 5, 58 yards,1 interception) gained 79 yards on 18 carries, including a 25-yard touchdown to put the Regents ahead 14-7 at halftime.

``We came out hyped,'' McKnight said. ``This was my first time in the playoffs. We just had to stay under control under pressure.''

Smith, who gained more than 1,400 yards in the regular season, led Narbonne with 115 yards on 19 carries, including a 38-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Marcus Jackson gained 87 yards on seven carries with a 76-yard touchdown in the third quarter to pull the Gauchos to within 14-13.
