, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 1997--Republic Automotive Parts, Inc. (Nasdaq/NM: RAUT) today reported sales and earnings for the fourth quarter and year ended December December: see month.  31, 1996.

This amount is calculated by subtracting the following items from gross sales: merchandise returned for credit, allowances for damaged or missing goods, freight
 for the fourth quarter totaled $45.0 million, compared with $41.5 million in the prior-year period. For the fourth quarter, the Company reported net income of $1.1 million, or $0.31 per share, compared with net income of $413,000, or $ 0.12 per share, for the same period in 1995.

For the year ended December 31, 1996, net sales amounted to $184.8 million, compared with $154.6 million in 1995. For 1996 the Company reported net income of $5.1 million, or $1.42 per share, compared with net income for 1995 of $1.9 million, or $0.53 per share. The net income for 1995 includes a charge, net of taxes, of $1.3 million, or $0.37 per share, related to a litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right.
