report Thursday on Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties. , but said the campus needs to improve its strategic and institutional planning and record-keeping functions.

The 12-member state panel also said the college needs to work on its technology support for administration and financial aid and its policies regarding shared governance Governance makes decisions that define expectations, grant power, or verify performance. It consists either of a separate process or of a specific part of management or leadership processes. Sometimes people set up a government to administer these processes and systems. .

``We are hopeful you will implement this agenda with due diligence Research; analysis; your homework. This term has caught on in all industries, because it sounds so "wired." Who would want to do analysis or research when they can do due diligence. See wired. ,'' said team Chairman Betty Dean said at the end of the panel's three-day study.

The team visited the college to prepare a report for consideration by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is one of six official academic bodies responsible for the accreditation of public and private universities, colleges, secondary and elementary schools in the United States and foreign institutions of American origin. . The commission reviews the college's accreditation every six years.

Among the areas the committee praised the college were efforts to bring technology into the classroom and for management use; the building and operation of the college's library and learning center; and the securing of funding for construction projects in an era of tight budgets.

``The college is to be commended for its atmosphere of renewed morale and enthusiasm and its renewed commitment to its mission,'' Dean said.

In preparation for the accreditation visit, the college conducted a study this summer that identified many of the problems the team brought up, campus President Linda Spink said.

``There were no surprises in the report. I think the accreditation committee did a professional assessment,'' Spink said. ``Those are areas we had already identified in the self-study and we are already developing plans.''

The accreditation visit was the first for Spink, who took over as president in August 1996.

``Change is often difficult and can produce negative outcomes before the positives are realized,'' Dean said. ``The team believes you are in the very beginning of realizing the positive.''

In October, representatives from the Community College League of California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  and The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges visited Antelope Valley College to help address conflicts over the school's shared governance policies. They also found that the college needs to revise its policies to clearly define decision-making decision-making,
