Fifty of the 55 law enforcement officers killed nationwide in the line of duty In the Line of Duty may refer to:

 last year died from gunshot wounds, an FBI report released Tuesday said.

The report said the average officer killed on duty was 37, with 10 years' experience in law enforcement. The report also said 67 officers died in on-duty accidents, and 57,546 officers were assaulted while on duty.

``As far as officer safety, whenever we lose an officer any time, it's one officer too many,'' said LAPD Sgt. Lee Sands. ``Whenever an officer is killed in the line of duty, we hurt as a family.

``We as police officers know that each day we put the uniform on, someone may want to hurt us, but that does not deter us from doing our jobs.''
