REPORT CLEARS SCHOOL SITE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT MINIMAL.

CALIFORNIA CITY - One more hurdle has been cleared for the construction of Hacienda hacienda
 also called estancia (Argentina and Uruguay) or fazenda (Brazil)

A study has determined that the campus, located at Hacienda and Redwood boulevards, will not pose significant harm to the environment.

In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  board last week declared the project would not have a significant effect on the environment and would not require an environmental impact report.

The district will start construction on the elementary school by June. The district also is going to start construction this year on a high school in California City.

The elementary school will be located on a 28-acre portion of a 73-acre site owned by the district. California City Middle School is located on the eastern portion of the site.

The 46,800-square-foot campus will include 18 permanent classrooms and eight classrooms that can be relocated, according to according to

The school will be designed to hold 650 students.

Play areas include two baseball fields, one football or soccer field, two volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. An upright net, 3 ft (or 1 m) high, the top of which stands 8 ft (2.43 m) from the ground for men, 7 ft 4 1/8 in (2.  courts, two basketball courts, six tetherball courts and six ball-play courts, the report said.

``The new school will be somewhat contemporary in design, and designed with colors which follow a natural palette, reminiscent of the Spanish Mission Spanish Mission may mean:
  • Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture - an architectural style, or
  • Mission Revival Style architecture - an architectural style, or
  • Spanish Missions in California - the history of California
  • Spanish missions in Texas
 style,'' the report said.

The new high school will help ease crowding at Mojave High School and eliminate the need for California City teens to travel to Mojave for school.

The school construction bond measure, approved in March 2002, added $160 a year in property taxes to a house assessed at $100,000.
