With the Newhall Redevelopment Agency awaiting nothing more than a formal approval, city officials and business leaders are turning their attention to quick, low-cost pick-me-ups for the beleaguered be·lea·guer

It will take several years to accrue enough funds for major redevelopment projects such as a community theater, library renovation and street improvements, said Glen Adamick, Santa Clarita's project manager for Newhall redevelopment.

 downtown Newhall,'' Adamick said. ``We're going to go ahead and move forward in some manner.''

Two efforts are already under way to help attract more business to downtown Newhall. The Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Civic Association and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce are planning separate festivals for December to encourage residents to spend their holiday dollars in downtown Newhall.

City Councilwoman Jill Klajic said a 15-member committee held its initial meeting Monday for the first Festival of Holidays, scheduled for Dec. 15-20. Events such as a De La Posada po·sa·da

A Christmas festival originating in Latin America that dramatizes the search of Joseph and Mary for lodging.



[American Spanish, from Spanish, lodging, from posar,
 Pageant and a visit from Old Man Frost will tie in with celebrations of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

The multiday event may include carolers, a sleigh sleigh: see sled.  bringing Santa and a contest for the best tree decorations. The event will encourage participation from the area's Latino business owners.
