RENEWAL OF THE EARTH CELEBRANTS GATHER FOR TU B'SHVAT.

MALIBU - Families planted together and got a close look at wildlife Sunday at the Shalom Institute The Shalom Institute is a centre for Educational excellence in the post-secondary school segment of the Jewish community, promoting Jewish identification, learning and development.  in Malibu, for Tu B'Shvat, a Jewish festival centered on the celebration of nature.

About 50 trees and 250 native California plants were ready for planting, and camp organizers matched the trees and plants with the planters - visitors who came individually or as part of a synagogue, school or community organization.

Tu B'Shvat was on Saturday this year, but planting events happened Sunday.

Tu B'Shvat events were also held in many other parts of the Southland.

 joined Stephen S. Wise Temple members planting trees at Aidan's Place in Westwood Park in honor of the temple's 40th anniversary.

``And we said we're going to plant these trees, and we can keep these skies as blue as they are today every day,'' Hahn said.

Rosenberg is known for his creativity and innovation in defensive strategy.

``It's for planting of trees and celebration of renewal of the earth, changing of the seasons, moving from winter to spring, renewal of life and the appreciation of God's great Earth,'' Rosenberg said.

Rosenberg's 14-year-old son, Hunter, is a former camper at the Shalom Institute, and he was glad to be back to plant. ``It's just coming together and working as a team, being as one,'' he said.

This was the sixth year the Shalom Institute held the Tu B'Shvat event, said Bill Kaplan, the executive director of the institute. About 1,500 to 2,000 visitors usually come for the event, he said.
