changed to something along the lines of Chick Hearn Way.

``That's a great idea; what's it named now?'' Hugo Pena of Los Angeles asked.

It's 11th Street, a strip of tar about two-tenths of a mile short between Figueroa Boulevard and the Harbor Freeway. Wouldn't take more than a couple of new signs painted by the guys at the city yard.

``It beats calling it 11th Street,'' Robert Ingersoll Robert Ingersoll may refer to:

``Let's do it,'' Frank Dessel of Orange County said.

``Sounds cool to me,'' Jacob Asher of Tarzana said.

``People would see it every day,'' Yael Shraga of Los Angeles said.

``Do it; I vote yes,'' Francis Beaver of Los Angeles said.

``That would be beautiful,'' Donna Thue of Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  said.

``I'd be the first to drive down it,'' Gary Green Gary Green (born November 20, 1950 in Stroud Green, North London, England) is a British musician. During the 1970s, he was the guitarist for the progressive rock band Gentle Giant.  of Santa Monica said.

``That's the only thing to do,'' Dudley T. Wheaton of Compton said.

``We might as well,'' Gil Bugarin of Burbank said.

These were some of the people, a cross section of about every demographic you could think of, who made the effort to come to the downtown arena The Downtown Arena is a proposed Arena in downtown El Paso, Texas. A specially arranged table in Section 111 where Hearn called the last three of his 42 seasons with the Lakers was set up, allowing thousands to file slowly past his empty seat, see how and where he kept his notes, his stopwatch, his ruler, even his cough drops.

Even Marge Hearn took her great-granddaughter, 7-year-old Kayla Newman, for a look when they arrived after the funeral After the Funeral is a work of detective fiction by Agatha Christie and first published in the US by Dodd, Mead and Company in 1953 under the title of Funerals are Fatal  for the reception at Staples Center Arena Club.

Just outside, on that piece of pavement we know as plain-old-11th, the line continued to grow.

``They named a street after Martin Luther King because he cared about the people, just like Chick did,'' Earl Shelton of Santa Monica said. ``So why not do that here, too?''

``That way he'd never die; his spirit will be in Laker fans forever,'' Sarbjit Singh of Burbank said.

``Absolutely for it,'' Bob Vyas of Reseda said.

``Most definitely,'' Angela Cardenas of Ontario said.

``He became part of the culture of L.A., so we should make him a permanent part of this area,'' said a guy over in Lot 3 who was hocking Hocking may refer to:

``I'm all for it,'' said another woman, carrying two bags of $30 Chick bobblehead dolls from the arena store.

Many more from this marvelous melting pot thought that altering the city's Thomas Guide just should be the beginning.

``What about a 50-foot statue?'' Ed McCrary of Chatsworth said.

``We can at least put a banner up for him,'' Craig Prince of Lake Balboa said.

``They have Kareem Court over at the Forum, so why not honor an announcer for a change,'' Kyu Lee of Carson said.

So it doesn't have to be Chick Hearn Way. It could be Chick Hearn Court. Or ...

``I'm not sure just naming a street for him is a high enough tribute,'' Paul Sunderland of Malibu said. ``I think we should probably name the court after him. I'd love to hear `Welcome to Staples Center at Chick Hearn Court' for the next 100 years.''

``Even if they don't name a street, he'll always be around,'' Elgin Baylor of Beverly Hills said.

``How long will it take?'' Stu Lantz of San Diego asked about putting up a street sign. ``Just get 'em up before the first game of the season, at least.''

You heard 'em. So who's in charge of cutting red tape at City Hall?
