RENAMED ONCE MORE IT'S TOWN CENTER AGAIN AFTER GRIPES.

VALENCIA - The city's only shopping mall - renamed Westfield Shoppingtown Valencia after a recent ownership change - is now called Westfield Valencia Town Center Westfield Valencia Town Center, formerly Valencia Town Center, is a shopping mall in Valencia, California, owned by The Westfield Group. Its anchor stores are JCPenney, Macy's, and Sears. The Robinsons-May was renamed Macy's on September 9, 2006.  after community members complained about the switch, officials said Thursday.

The new name, which combines the 860,000-square-foot mall's original Valencia Town Center namesake with that of new majority owner, The Westfield Group The Westfield Group is a multinational company that owns shopping centres in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Westfield shopping centres are typically branded with the name Westfield or Westfield Shoppingtown in their name. , has been flashing over the past week on an electronic sign alongside Interstate 5.

Mall operators decided to drop ``Shoppingtown'' after shoppers and residents sounded off against the name on comment cards, said Lindsay Lebby, the mall's marketing director.

``The center literally serves as the town center,'' Lebby said. ``There is a strong association with the name. We feel that our customers and our community's opinion is important, and so we listened.''

Westfield, which acquired a 25 percent stake in the Town Center in 2002, increased its ownership to 50 percent in February. The group holds interests in 127 shopping centers in Australia, New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia.  Property and its partners bought the developer early 2004. LNR turned over management of the mall to Westfield, then was sold in February to Cerberus Capital Management, a privately held, New York-based investment group.

The Town Center's owners are preparing a 600,000-square-foot expansion, which includes two new department stores to join anchors Robinsons-May, Sears and J.C. Penney.
