RENAISSANCE MAN DOES IT ALL FOR T.O.; GRIMM USED TO WINNING.

He played college football for the University of Colorado.  makes no secret about his preference for soccer over volleyball.

``I think soccer is a lot more entertaining,'' Grimm said. ``I play volleyball for fun.''

Grimm figures to play an important role in the Thousand Oaks volleyball team's run through the playoffs. T.O. (11-6) plays at Quartz Hill in the first round of the Division I playoffs tonight.

``He doesn't play in the back row often but you can really see his skills as a goalie to get to the ball,'' Van Wig said.

``I played it pretty much because he did,'' Grimm said. ``Soccer is my main sport, but it's something of the past. I might play on a club team but ROTC is going to keep my hands and legs full.''

Grimm is on a tight time table at Thousand Oaks.

For his community service project, Grimm assembled a network to link the school's newspaper and yearbook computer desktop publishing desktop publishing, system for producing printed materials that consists of a personal computer or computer workstation, a high-resolution printer (usually a laser printer), and a computer program that allows the user to select from a variety of type fonts and sizes, . Grimm solicited donations of $2,000 worth of computer parts from local businesses to upgrade eight computers for the project, which required more than 250 hours work.

Grimm is also delving into film-making as a member of the the Thousand Oaks video club.

He recently produced and directed a taping of the school talent show that is being aired on a public access channel. Grimm, who plays the piano, also wrote the music for the talent show broadcast on his computer.

Grimm calls his musical compositions ``modern progressive rock.'' He is working on a script and music for a 15-minute video on the life of a high school student.

``I want to show another side of high school and show what high school is about,'' Grimm said.

Nevertheless, soccer has been his primary endeavor.

. Last season, he recorded eight shutouts for the Thousand Oaks soccer team, which finished 15- 4-5. During one stretch, Grimm, the Marmonte League Goalie of the Year, notched a school-record four shutouts in a row.

``I love watching my teammates busting their butts and here I am doing nothing,'' Grimm said. ``Volleyball is such a team sport and you have to be in tune with all players at all times.''
