WHAT: Thousands of volunteers will dance the conga along Grand
Avenue in front of Disney Hall on Saturday, June 5th at
1:00 p.m. They will celebrate L.A. Works Day 2004 - our
city's longest running day of community service - with
L.A.'s longest conga line stretching from California Plaza
to Disney Hall, led by the afro-cuban beat of Ricardo Lemvo
and Makina Loca.
L.A. Works Day will start at 7:30 am when volunteers
representing our city's rich cultural blend will converge
at California Plaza, the gathering place at the heart of
our emerging "new downtown". From there, they will fan out
to play music with kids, create community art, paint
schools and murals, plant trees and clean up the LA River.

Magnolia is the site for interactive activities with over
200 neighborhood kids that will include playing music with
the American Gamalan, building kites with rocket
scientists, one-on-one reading programs, theater with the
Kaiser Permanente Educational Theater Group, art projects
and team sports.
Volunteers will also refurbish this downtown Los Angeles
school with a fresh coat of paint, landscaping and cleaning
the grounds.
