REMINDER/Specialty Finance Industry Conference to be Held at NYSSA.Business Editors REMINDER...for Thurs. (May 2) NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2002 The New York Society of Security Analysts will present the 6th Annual Specialty Finance Conference on May 2, 2002. Highlighted at the conference will be investment opportunities within the areas of specialty finance and alternative trading systems Alternative Trading Systems (ATS) are SEC-approved non-exchange trading venues. They play an important role in public markets for allowing alternative means of accessing liquidity. . Although industry observers are concerned that specialty finance companies will be adversely impacted by deterioration in commercial lending portfolios and by funding challenges, the convergence of several developments, such as the Federal Reserve's interest rate reductions and reduced competition due to banking industry consolidation could prove to be favorable for the specialty finance industry. Alternative trading systems (ATS) have emerged to make the mechanics of trading stocks more efficient, and they are positioned to benefit greatly from the combined trading volume of all three major exchanges. However, this trend may not be sustainable because reverse splits, company delistings, and mergers and acquisitions reduce the number of shares available. Decimalization Decimalization The process of changing the prices that securities trade at from fractions to decimals. Notes: The reasoning behind this was to make prices more easily understood by investors, and to bring the United States into conformity with international practices. (quoting share prices in pennies) has also affected ATS by reducing spreads and liquidity (insufficient volume at a greater array of prices) while increasing ticket charges and clearing fees.
