WHO: Tom Sweeney
WHAT: Native San Franciscan, Tom Sweeney, began working at the
historic Sir Francis Drake Hotel in 1977 when he was just 19
years old. After completing the Hotel/Restaurant Program at
City College, Sweeney was hired as a bellman and soon after
promoted to doorman. Today, Sweeney is the most photographed
figure in the City decked in his colorful Beefeater-garbed
attire -- red jacket with gold braided embroidery, crimson
knickers and a black hat. From luggage tags, stationery and
posters to a drink named "Sweeneytini," Tom Sweeney celebrates
his 25th anniversary with many accomplishments.
