WHO The Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Breidenthal, Dean of Religious Life and
    Dean of the Chapel at Princeton University, a scholar, teacher and
    Episcopal priest who has been a leader in interfaith cooperation,
    will address the annual Children's Sabbath hosted by Interfaith
    Council for The Homeless of Union County.

WHAT Interfaith Council for the Homeless of Union County is sponsoring
    the annual Children's Sabbath. Children of different faiths from
    churches, temples and synagogues throughout Union County will come
    together and read verses from their respective holy books. The
    theme this year is "Repairers of the Breach: Congregations Acting
    to Leave No Child Behind."

    Many individual congregations throughout Union County are coming
    together to hold a special interfaith services, inspiring people
    of faith to respond to children's needs, making this a better and
    safer world for all children.

    Attendees are asked to bring a new item of clothing for a child 3
    years old or younger. The clothing will be donated to a charity
    that helps families with young children.

WHY The goal of the Children's Sabbath is to generate new, long-term
    efforts to meet children's need by raising awareness, serving
    children directly and advocating on behalf of our children.

    Endorsed by more than 200 denominations and religious
    organizations, the National Observance of Children's Sabbath
    unites tens of thousands of religious congregations of many faiths
    in speaking out and acting faithfully for justice for children and
    families. This event encourages a long-term commitment to help
    children and families through prayer, education, service, and
    advocacy. This year a special emphasis is being put on tolerance
    and peace.
