WHAT: The first definitive picture of diabetes in California is being
released with frightening implications. Based on interviews with
more than 55,000 households, the latest California Health
Interview Survey (CHIS 2001) paints a bleak picture of the health
of the state, with one in seven Californians suffering from or at
serious risk for developing this largely preventable killer.
Authors of the study and diabetes experts will address media
questions about this authoritative study, which looks at the
prevalence of diabetes county-by-county, as well as factors
affecting the development of this incurable condition.
