will celebrate the Fourth of July with President
George W. Bush at The Greater Exodus Baptist Church
block party with Reverend Herb Lusk, his congregation
and representatives from the Amachi Program.
Residents from the Salvation Army Red Shield Family
Residence, an emergency shelter and support services
facility for homeless families, will also be in
attendance. Amachi is a mentoring program that focuses
on helping children of incarcerated parents.

BACKGROUND: In January 2001, President Bush established the White
House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
Dr. John DiIulio, director of the faith-based office,
was the guest speaker at this year's Salvation Army
Corporate Partners Luncheon and Award Ceremony.
During his remarks, DiIulio recognized the success of
the Salvation Army as a faith-based, social services
provider.
The Salvation Army was founded 135 years ago as a
religious and social services organization. Since that
time, the organization has taken a holistic approach
to working with people, addressing their physical,
emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs. The
Salvation Army provides community supportive services,
residential shelters, foster care, developmental
disabilities programs, correctional services programs,
child development centers, after-school care and
Corps Community Centers.
