The XENON family is based on the POS-PHY Level 4 (http://www.pmc-sierra.com/posphylevel4) interface, pioneered by the SATURN(R) Development Group, standardized by both the Optical Internetworking Forum The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) was organized to facilitate and accelerate the development of next-generation optical internetworking products. The OIF produces Electrical, Tunable Laser, Very Short Reach Hardware Interfaces.  (SPI-4 Phase 2) and the ATM Forum A membership organization founded in 1991 to promote ATM networking technology. It worked with ANSI and the ITU to set standards. Its first specification in 1992 defined the User-Network Interface (UNI). PMC-Sierra and Foundry Networks Demonstrate 10 Gigabit Ethernet

Interoperability

PMC-Sierra and Foundry Networks, Inc (Booth # 1705, Hall D) will demonstrate 10 Gigabit Ethernet (LAN PHY See physical layer and physical. ) interoperability between Foundry's BigIron(R) Layer 3 Switch 10GBASE-LR card and PMC-Sierra's XENON 10 Gigabit Ethernet PM5390 S/UNI(R)-9953 reference design system. The seamless connectivity between PMC-Sierra's XENON family of 10 Gigabit Ethernet components (S/UNI-9953 and S/UNI-1x10GE) and Foundry's BigIron Layer 3 switches will simplify migration to next generation 10 Gigabit Ethernet systems, including multi-service routers and switches for metro optical networks. For this demonstration, data traffic will be generated from a Gigabit Ethernet tester, aggregated by the BigIron switch into a single 10 GE link and sent to the PM3392 S/UNI-1x10GE reference design. PMC-Sierra will also demonstrate interoperability for high density Gigabit Ethernet by connecting the PM3388 S/UNI-10xGE reference design to Foundry's 8 port Gigabit Ethernet module.

PMC-Sierra and Agilent Demonstrate POS-PHY Level 4 Development

Tools

PMC-Sierra and Agilent (Booth # 1705, Hall D) will demonstrate development tools for the industry standard POS-PHY Level 4 (Optical Internetworking Forum SPI-4.2) 10 Gigabit system interface using the S/UNI-9953 reference design system and Agilent's 16760A logic analyzer. The logic analyzer provides protocol and LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) A transmission method for sending digital information. LVDS sends data over data high and data low lines rather than data and ground.  analysis tools to speed characterization and integration testing of systems using the POS-PHY Level 4 interface.

PMC-Sierra Exhibits OC-192 Add-Drop Multiplexer and Multi Service

Provisioning Platform Applications

PMC-Sierra (Booth #1705, Hall D) will showcase optical transport solutions that enable traffic grooming at termination down to sub-wavelength granularities. This is essential for today's service providers who need to use existing bandwidth to organize and distribute optical traffic from both access and long-haul networks. The demonstration will feature a 320 Gbit STS-1/AU-3 Add-Drop Multiplexer and Multi Service Provisioning Platform for OC-192/STM-64 and OC-48/STM-16 applications. The system is built with PMC-Sierra's CHESS-II(TM) chip set, including the flag ship product PM5317 SPECTRA-9953(TM) OC-192/STM-64 and 4 port OC-48/STM-16 framer and pointer processor, and the TSE-160, the industry's first 160 Gbit cross-connect chip.
