--(BUSINESS WIRE)

MEDIA ALERT

Who:    Hugh B. Price, President & CEO of the National Urban League;

Bishop Cecil Bishop, Chairman of the Congress of National
        Black Churches,

Ronald O. Ross; Dr. Israel Tribble, Jr. Distinguished Fellow
in Urban Education, National Urban League

Donald E. Bowen, Chief Executive Officer and President of the
Urban League of Broward County, and

Ed Gordon, renowned BET (Black Entertainment Television) news
        anchor.

What: Announce the National Urban League/Congress of National
Black Churches 5th Annual National Achievers Society Academy
Induction Ceremony. The event marks the Urban League of
Broward County's selection as the national flagship affiliate
for the National Urban League/Congress of National Black
Church's Campaign for African-American Achievement National
        Achievers Society induction ceremony.

In addition to the National Achievers Society inductions, the
event will pay a special tribute to Dr. Israel TribbleJr.,
founder of the National Achievers Society model, formerly
known as the McKnight Achievers Society. In the mid-1980s, Dr.
Israel TribbleJr., then head of the Florida Education Fund,
conceived of the McKnight Achievers Society as a
community-based vehicle for recognizing high achievers and
        encouraging achievement by black children.

For more than a decade, Urban League affiliates collaborated
with Dr. Tribble in inducting academic stars, who've earned
GPAs of 3.0 or better, into this august body. It has provided
these young people with encouragement and, frankly, protective
cover from peers who scorn achievement and those who achieve.

In all, 140 youths will receive national recognition for their
academic achievement. Students are available for interviews
before and during the day's events.
