WHAT: The Economic Club of Chicago presents Michael K. Powell,
chairman, Federal Communications Commission. Powell will speak
at the club's December dinner meeting, which is closed to
members and their guests.
WHO: Powell was designated FCC chairman by President Bush in 2001.
He had originally been appointed as a member of the FCC in 1997
by President Clinton. Powell's recent rulings include making
telephone numbers portable between cell phone and traditional
carriers, instituting a consumer do-not-call rule, pushing for
more innovative and efficient uses of wireless spectrum,
advocating greater broadband development and updating
media-ownership rules
