Families From Communities Throughout Los Angeles Will Learn How to
Become More Involved With Their Children's Education
WHAT: The EDUCATE LA Knowledge Symposium is a free, annual event
designed to increase parental and community participation by
providing a comprehensive resource for families that realize
the importance of proactively supporting their children's
educational progression. The Symposium enables families to
support their children by providing a centralized forum for
exploring a wide variety of educational programs, products
and services.
Nearly 100 organizations will provide educational programs
and services at the Los Angeles Convention Center, including
the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the Los Angeles
Unified School District, Big Sisters & Big Brothers Los
Angeles, United Negro College Fund, Inc., Hispanic
Scholarship Fund, MALDEF, INROADS, UNITE-LA, ACT, SCORE!,
Kaplan, Sylvan Learning Centers, United Teachers Los Angeles,
Golden State ScholarShare Trust, America's Promise and
numerous other education-related service providers. More than
2,500 parents, students and educators are expected to attend.
BACKGROUND:
Developed in 1998, EDUCATE LA empowers parents and families
in communities throughout Los Angeles County to support their
children's educational progression by providing a centralized
source for education-related programs and services. To
achieve its mission, EDUCATE LA encourages community support
and corporate sponsorship through a variety of programs and
events such as the Knowledge Symposium.
