WHAT: Venture Point Tech Coast SBDC, the nation's only
high-tech/high-growth Small Business Development Center
(SBDC), has secured three top industry speakers for its Meet
the Resources of the Tech Coast event. Presentations on types
of money, talking to money and entrepreneurial success stories
will provide both early-stage companies and companies
experiencing growth obstacles with insight into improving
time-to-market and increasing the chance for success.
George White, entrepreneur-in-residence, Intel -- As
entrepreneur-in-residence at Intel, White is involved with an
internally focused fund that is using venture capital methods
to unlock value in Intel people and technologies to help
diversify the company. White joined Intel in 1997 as a result
of his Irvine, Calif.-based company, Corollary Inc., being
acquired by Intel. Previously, White ran a research and
development facility in Irvine for Texas Instruments'
minicomputer division, where he was responsible for a product
based on the Nubus, a bus developed at MIT. He led an IEEE
standards effort to codify the Nubus and was instrumental in
persuading Apple Computers to use the Nubus as the backbone of
their first "open" Macintosh. White frequently speaks at
computer industry conferences. He has a bachelor's degree in
electrical engineering from M.I.T.
John Stroh, managing director, Roth Capital Partners -- In
addition to his position as managing director of corporate
finance, Stroh heads the Private Placement Group (PPG), a
group focused on the private equity/debt financing of emerging
growth and middle market healthcare, technology,
telecommunications and consumer products companies. Prior to
joining Roth Capital, Stroh was vice president of investment
banking in the Healthcare Corporate Finance Group at US
Bancorp Piper Jaffray and John Nuveen and Co. During his
career, Stroh has managed more than 100 capital raising
projects, totaling over $1 billion in cumulative dollars
raised. He is a frequent public speaker on corporate finance
and venture capital related issues. Stroh received his
bachelor of science degree from California State University,
Long Beach and his MBA from University of California, Los
Angeles.
David Schnitt, executive vice president, Resources Connection
LLC -- Schnitt founded and established Resources Connection, a
spin-off from Deloitte & Touche that provides outsourced
specialists in the information technology (IT), human
resources, finance and accounting fields. Previously, as a
senior manager with Deloitte Consulting, Schnitt advised and
assisted clients in re-engineering their finance and
accounting functions. He has been responsible for the design,
development and implementation of several consulting projects
with budgets of up to $11 million. Schnitt is an industry
expert on outsourcing trends and the evolution of the "virtual
business" and has spoken at numerous conferences. He received
his bachelor of arts degree from Cornell University and MBA
from the University of Michigan.
