 Co. will launch its ninth annual and largest-ever Explore Engineering Summer Science Camp this Friday, July 7, continuing each Friday and Saturday Saturday: see week; Sabbath.  through July 22.

More than 350 elementary through high-school students from approximately 70 cities throughout Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  will join more than 190 volunteer Boeing scientists/engineers, parents and local educators in a unique, fun, hands-on, results-oriented learning experience. Students select from 13 workshops, including astronomy astronomy, branch of science that studies the motions and natures of celestial bodies, such as planets, stars, and galaxies; more generally, the study of matter and energy in the universe at large. , computers and automation, fundamentals of flight, chemistry and biology, electronics and vulcanology.

Workshops strive for at least one hands-on activity for every 10 minutes of lecture to maintain student interest. Early-morning math instruction and one-on-one reading and math tutoring also are offered.

Combining the talent and resources of industry, educators and local communities, the nationally recognized Boeing Summer Science Camp program is a proven, collaborative model In psycholinguistics, the collaborative model(or conversational model) is a theory for explaining how speaking and understanding work in conversation, specifically how people in conversation coordinate to determine definite references.  that meaningfully impacts youth interest in math, science and engineering careers. The program supplements traditional classroom instruction, filling a critical need for students to become more skilled, knowledgeable and excited about the world of high-tech.


Camp highlights include:

Saturday, July 8
8:30 - 11 a.m.

Visits by NASA astronauts Scott J. Horowitz and Jeffrey N. Williams
(pilot and mission specialist, respectively, for the May 2000 Shuttle
mission to prepare the International Space Station for docking with
the Russian Service Module Zvezda and arrival of the Expedition 1
crew).

Saturday, July 22
Noon

Open House/Career Fair for parents and family members.
