WHO: Legendary Polish director Andrzej Wajda will address opening
night audience in a special video from the location of his
current film. Directors Murad Ibragimbekov (True Stories) and
Ibolya Fekete (Chico) will be present at the opening. Also
scheduled are some of the most important Berlin filmmakers and
film professionals: Film curators Ulrich Gregor and Erika
Gregor; photographer, director and Academy Award-winning
producer Manfred Durniok; documentary maker Volker Koepp, and
journalist and filmmaker Ron Holloway. They are among those
who will participate in the festival series "Berliners who
opened our eyes to the East."
WHAT: The Freedom Film Festival celebrates the bold visions and
courage of filmmakers from the former Eastern bloc who use
their artistry to tell stories about freedom and democracy.
Now in its fifth year, the festival remains committed to
bringing these important works to an international audience to
support the continuing struggle for freedom in many societies.
It is a mission that has become increasingly important.

Screenings at locations except Laemmle's are free on
a first-come, first-served basis. At Laemmle's: Free to all
AFM badge-holders, and to members of all industry guilds and
associations. General public $8.50. Seniors (with ID) $5.50.
