REMINDER/Agility Director of Marketing, Kevin Affolter, to Present At ElectroniCast Advanced Photonics Conference.Business/Assignment Editors & Technology Writers REMINDER...for Tuesday (Nov. 6) --(BUSINESS WIRE) Media are invited to hear Kevin Affolter, director of marketing for Agility Communications(TM), Inc., give a presentation on tunable lasers and their impact on optical networks at the ElectroniCast Advanced Photonics Conference on Tues., Nov. 6, from 2 p.m. to 2:40 p.m., at the San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden Airport Marriott Hotel. Affolter will highlight Agility's continued success as the award-winning leader in providing widely tunable lasers for metro, switching, and long-haul markets. This premier conference features leading experts in optoelectronics and highlights technical issues in the optical networking Communications between computers, telephones and other electronic devices using light. An optical network is far more reliable and has far greater potential transmission capacity than networking in the electrical domain. See optical fiber. industry. The conference is hosted by ElectroniCast Corp., a company that specializes in forecasting technology and global market trends in the fiber optics fiber optics, transmission of digitized messages or information by light pulses along hair-thin glass fibers. Each fiber is surrounded by a cladding having a high index of refractance so that the light is internally reflected and travels the length of the fiber , network communications, and advanced photonics markets. Biography for Kevin Affolter, Director of Marketing Kevin Affolter has more than 14 years of experience in high-technology industries, including six years of research on integrated circuit integrated circuit (IC), electronic circuit built on a semiconductor substrate, usually one of single-crystal silicon. The circuit, often called a chip, is packaged in a hermetically sealed case or a nonhermetic plastic capsule, with leads extending from it for process and device development and three years of laser diode A semiconductor-based laser used to generate analog signals or digital pulses for transmission through optical fibers. Both laser diodes and LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are used for this purpose, but the laser diode generates a smaller beam that is easier to couple with the smaller core product development. Before joining Agility as director of marketing, Affolter was a brand manager of optical amplifiers at Nortel Networks (Nortel Networks Limited, Brampton, Ontario, www.nortelnetworks.com) A world leader in telecommunications products, which includes switching, wireless and broadband systems for service providers and carriers, telephones and systems for residential and business users, computer telephony Optical Networks division. He was responsible for the profitable growth of a new product line incorporating optical amplifiers, dispersion compensation modules, and DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM. DWDM - wavelength division multiplexing couplers. As a product line manager at Nortel Networks Optoelectronics division for four years, Affolter was in charge of generating revenue for high-speed product lines that incorporated high-speed lasers, modulators, and receivers. He was also responsible for starting a new product line incorporating several passive technologies including planar silica waveguides, thin-film dielectric filters, and fibre Bragg gratings. Affolter started his career as a senior research engineer at STC STC Supplemental Type Certificate (FAA) STC Society for Technical Communication STC Subject to Change STC Surf the Channel (website) STC Sound Transmission Class STC Singapore Turf Club Technology, which was later acquired by Nortel Networks. At STC Technology he developed process and device technology for silicon integrated circuits based on CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes. and bipolar transistors, including deposition and etching processes for multilayer metallization Met`al`li`za´tion n. 1.
