The Palmdale Red Cross office began accepting donations Monday, and within five days the project's organizers were swamped by donations.

Students from Highland High School, including nearly 20 members of Hernandez' ROTC class, initially were asked to meet at the Red Cross office at 10 a.m. But because of the overwhelming number of donations, they were asked to come in at 8 a.m. instead. The students worked all day, sorting the items and then boxing them. At one point they ran out of boxes.

One of the largest donations came from Newhall Coffee which donated 1,000 pounds of individually wrapped coffee packages. Most other donations came from residents.

By noon Saturday, donations continued to arrive. Donators were greeted by students who would unload To remove a program from memory or take a tape or disk out of its drive.  their vehicles.

Because of the need for additional military supplies to be shipped to troops, the Red Cross has postponed the sending of its packages for about a week.

Project organizers have asked that any additional donations be held for the next week or so, until the Red Cross is able to send off the items they are holding.
