Good thing. There's a young woman in Japan right now who owes her life to the boy who cried on his way to his first Boy Scout meeting and hated all those cold morning swims in the ocean.

While vacationing in Hawaii with 20 other Scouts and parents from the Mission Hills troop, the boys saved the woman from being swept out to sea by a strong riptide while snorkeling at Oahu's Hanauma Bay Hanauma Bay (pronounced "ha-NOW-mah") is a marine embayment formed within a volcanic cone or crater and located along the southeast coast of the Island of Oʻahu (just east of Honolulu) in the Hawaiian Islands. .

``The boys were all swimming when they heard her screaming for help,'' Scoutmaster Brian Dillon Brian Dillon (1830 - ca. 1872) was an Irish Republican leader. He was born into a family of seven children. His birthplace was a small house on the Rathcooney Road, Cork. When the family moved to Dillons Cross, the old house was demolished and some of the bricks were later used to  said.

John swam back to shore for a boogie board, while Will swam out to the coral reefs coral reefs, limestone formations produced by living organisms, found in shallow, tropical marine waters. ``He got her head above water and kept her in a lifesaving hold while John furiously paddled out to them.

``He made it just in time because Will was exhausted from fighting the high surge of waves and the woman thrashing about.

``The boys put her on the boogie board and paddled back to the beach. A big crowd of Japanese tourists started applauding and thanking them,'' Dillon said.

Watching her son receive a hero's medal, Barbara Wright smiled.

Sure, she was proud of her son, but she knew the truth. The training and skills that Will and John received in Scouting and the Junior Lifeguard program made it possible for them to save that woman's life.

``Boy, am I glad I didn't turn the car around and go home when he started crying because he didn't want to go to his first Boy Scout meeting,'' she said.
