Byline: Eric Sondheimer Daily News Staff Writer

Barring a last-minute appeal to the CIF Southern Section CIF Southern Section (commonly abbreviated as CIFSS) is the largest of the ten sections which comprise the California Interscholastic Federation. Its membership includes most public and private high schools in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara, , Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary.  tried to move Notre Dame to the Division I Del Rey, but an appeal succeeded when it was determined proper procedures had not been followed.

``It's been very difficult,'' said Alemany principal Rev. Robert Milbauer, president of the CAA. ``We had two meetings of the Del Rey and Mission principals and no one is really happy, but this is the best we could work out to satisfy almost everyone except Notre Dame.''

The new leagues could particularly boost Crespi and Alemany. Both schools have struggled in Division I in recent years. On Friday, Alemany named St. Francis assistant Jim Bonds as its new head football coach.
