RELENTLESS PURSUIT BEGINS TAFT OPENS SEASON TONIGHT VS. CRENSHAW.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

On a big white sign hanging outside Troy Starr's football office at Taft High of Woodland Hills, it lists the Toreadors' goals for the upcoming season.

At the top of that list, it reads: ''Relentless pursuit of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  City 4-A Championship.''

For Taft, that pursuit begins tonight against a familiar nemesis Nemesis (nĕm`ĭsĭs), in Greek religion and mythology, personification of the gods' retribution for violation of sacred law; the avenger. Sometimes she was said to be the goddess of good and ill fortune. : Crenshaw cren·shaw   also cran·shaw

Crenshaw has won three of the past five meetings between the teams, with Taft's last victory coming in 2002, when the Toreadors opened the season with a 38-26 triumph.

There promises to be plenty of star power on display tonight, as both teams feature several Division I college prospects.
