Reward offered in park vandalism

LAKE LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  -- County supervisors have approved offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for vandalizing Sorensen Park.

Six newly planted trees were discovered broken in half, and the men's restroom was vandalized with gang-related graffiti Oct. 4.

Show to feature birds of prey

LANCASTER -- A bird presentation featuring various birds of prey will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve at 35th Street West and Avenue K-8.

The event will feature a Eurasian owl, a lanner falcon The Lanner Falcon (Falco biarmicus[2]) is a large bird of prey that breeds in Africa, southeast Europe and just into Asia. It is mainly resident, but some birds disperse more widely after the breeding season. , and a vulture vulture, common name for large birds of prey of temperate and tropical regions. The Old World vultures (family Accipitridae) are allied to hawks and eagles; the more ancient American vultures and condors are of a different family (Cathartidae) with distant links to  named Dexter. The show will take place at the Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center.

Reservations are not required, but space is limited. There is a $2 charge. Children 3 years and younger are free.

Boeing recruiters will be at job fair

PALMDALE -- The South Valley WorkSource Center will hold a job fair with Boeing Global from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the AERO Institute, 38256 Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling .

Boeing is recruiting for several types of positions, including technicians and mechanics, to work at Edwards Air Force Base Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway.  and at sites in Washington and Oregon.

Car burglars find easy targets

SAUGUS -- Forty-five burglaries from vehicles have been reported in the past month, mostly in the Saugus area, sheriff's officials said.

Thieves broke into most of the cars between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. and took electronic items, purses and wallets.

In many of the cases, the vehicles weren't locked. In others, the thieves smashed windows.

Sheriff's deputies advise residents to remove garage-door openers and any valuable items from their cars such as GPS devices, cell phones, computers, purses and iPods if they park their car in a driveway or on the street.

VENTURA COUNTY

New program rescues big dogs

NEWBURY PARK -- The Hogan Family Foundation has started a rescue program for large dogs in Ventura County and is asking for volunteers to help.

The foundation already has a program for small-breed dogs in place called Lifeline 4 Paws. The program for larger dogs is called Big Paws 4 A Cause.

Volunteers are needed to help with the socialization socialization /so·cial·iza·tion/ (so?shal-i-za´shun) the process by which society integrates the individual and the individual learns to behave in socially acceptable ways.
