District eyes site for school

PALMDALE -- The Palmdale School District The Palmdale School District is a school district that serves a major part of the city of Palmdale, California (USA).

is in the process of acquiring 13 acres for a future elementary school elementary school: see school.  on the district's east side.

The vacant land near Avenue R-12 and 27th Street East is intended to be the future site of Frederick W. Strasburg School, named after a former longtime principal.

The parcel consists of more than 40 parcels and the district is negotiating with property owners. If no agreement is reached, the district might use its eminent domain eminent domain, the right of a government to force the owner of private property sell it if it is needed for a public use. The right is based on the doctrine that a sovereign state has dominion over all lands and buildings within its borders, which has its origins in  powers to obtain the land.
