Award PALMDALE -- Former City Manager Bob Toone is this year's recipient of the Medici Award, which is presented by the Palmdale Playhouse to recognize a community member who has shown support for the playhouse and arts in general. Toone will receive the award Saturday, prior to that night's scheduled performance, a concert by the Osmond Brothers. -- Daily News SANTA CLARITA Transmission line in forest gets OK The U.S. Forest Service will allow a new power transmission line to be built in forest-owned land near Santa Clarita to help meet the growing demand for electricity in the burgeoning north Los Angeles County region. Some 13 miles of Southern California Edison's proposed 25.6-mile line between its Antelope Valley and Pardee substations would replace an existing power line in the Angeles National Forest The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los . The Forest Service last week granted Edison permission to operate the high-voltage line for 50 years. Tower supports would be taller than the existing towers but the units would be placed at midslope to lessen the impact on the viewshed and maximize firefighting efforts.
